Continue to be gullible ?

The question that is often raised today is why india is drawing so much attention from the world ? The answer is very simple.
India has always drawn world's attention. earlier the outsiders were interested in its resources, its wealth - spices, timber , cotton, minerals etc etc. so they grabbed it. and the gullible did not know what hit them.
the outsiders did one good thing - they created a new class : a western educated ( or aping ?) middle class. they have swelled over the years and have also become rich. George Bush during his visit here was left speechless to know of such a big middle class. we understand what was going on at the back of his mind - such a huge market !!
Will the indian continue to be gullible ?

we are flat and round

The world is both flat and round. yes Friedman's ' ten events' have flattened many things in space and time; we really have achieved a better level playing field than yesterday when the new media was not around. we can speak for ourselves and also sometimes deceive ourselves saying that we are participating in governance. but we are still governed to a large extent by cleverer people of the market. we now connect instantly from one end of the world to another but nearer home cannot reach relief to a starving community. we have become both prompt and slow.

Change in mindset

There is a perceptible change in the mindset of the present generation. They are tech savvy, acutely conscious of the benefits of the new connectivity and supremely confident with no baggage of the past. I feel good about them and miserable of ourselves, being things long outdated. They know how to enjoy themselves ( we hardly knew so many options) and it is fun all the way. Can they tackle crises ? I think they can - perhaps even better.Time will tell.

US India nuclear deal

Two cultures are trying to become one. Philosophically it sounds good, but is it feasible ? is it practical ? will it last ? The US is an economic leader and naturally will like to dictate. india has its resources and till so far was fool enough not to make good use of it to become an economic power. but times have changed. The US has caught on to the nuclear edge of India. But it is yet to recognise its other powers. Its really a learning process - shall i say - for both of them.
Why cant we have some patience and let the US learn about India - be it through the nuclear eye. Only please dont slip this time. history shows you have slipped too many times and allowed others to lord over you!!
